Gender Equality and Girl Child Empowerment

At KISS, tribal girls are on an equal footing with boys. Girls have brought laurels in all spheres including academics, sports, arts among others. Female representation in higher education and sports is at par with males. In fact, KISS has produced several female athletes who have represented India in Commonwealth and Asian Games.

A safe residential facility and a community of fellow tribal students encourage girls to attend school and complete their education. Innovative teaching methods such as the award-winning mother tongue-based multilingual education programme make learning simpler. Awareness of the repercussions of early marriage has resulted in eliminating child marriages and unwanted pregnancies.

A stringent Gender and Sexual Harassment Committee has ensured the safety of women at the institution. Initiatives such as the Kalinga Fellowship have been introduced to unite leaders in different sectors – corporate, government and civil society and create an environment of zero tolerance towards sexual assault and trafficking of girls.

A conscious effort has been made to maintain at least 50% enrolment of female students and employ a greater ratio of female staff, which is currently about 70% of the total strength.
