Mr. Sunaram Kisku

“कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन”
Born to Santali parents in the village Rumapahadi, Mayrbhanj district, on 30 June, 1992, Sunaram Kisku lived a life of abject poverty and struggle. The father, a cowherd, who had attended school up to the fourth standard, supported a large family of nine members with great difficulty. Now, he and his brothers are well-settled. Having completed his school education from Tapovan High School, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar, he joined KISS as an intermediate science student in 2007 and graduated from KIIT with BCA and MCA degrees. Serving as a Sr. Assistant at ISRO, Mr. KISKU has won admiration as a brilliant worker as well as a sportsman. He won two “Man of the Match” awards on Inter Centre Sports Meet-2019 held at IPRC, Mahendragiri, organised by ISRO. He says in his own words what he owes to KISS.
Since I was born in very poor family, I aspired to complete higher studies to overcome my family’s financial problems. KISS helped me enormously to realize my dreams. Without being associated with this glorious institution, my dreams would not have come true. What I have achieved today is only because of KISS.
I never felt homesick while I was at KISS, as I found myself in the pleasant environment of the campus. Distinguished teachers, cordial and supportive staff and friends from all over the Odisha – who were like brothers and sisters to me –were the reason why KISS felt like a home for us. My social life improved very much. Did I miss my friends and the traditional games? Yes, I did. But KISS compensated for this loss as it provided a platform for playing our traditional games frequently.
As I had studied in Odia medium till the 10th class, it was very difficult for me to catch up with teaching and learning in English. I always doubted my capabilities to even complete +2 Science. It was very difficult for me to ask the questions to clear my doubts, as my communication skill was poor. But I could overcome the challenges only because of the excellent support from teachers, combined with my hard work. Whatever problems & queries I had, they always explained in simple language, and that made my understanding easier. Their support and dedication motivated me to do the best and always inspired me to work harder and still harder. The academic support I received at the KISS has been of immense help in building my career and nurturing my personality. I developed at KISS as a better learner that I was earlier. Today, I have managed to reach this height, thanks to the combined efforts of KISS management and myself. I am highly indebted to the entire KISS family for their unconditional support altogether. I express my heartfelt gratitude to all my teachers and the supportive staff of KISS, who have been part of my remarkable journey. They helped me to uncover my true potential and strengthen my critical thinking as well as analytical skills. The initiative of KISS towards the education of the tribal students has been a significant landmark in the history of the progress of entire Odisha as well as India. It is a great effort of KISS to develop individuals associated with this esteemed organization to become productive, self-dependant, socially useful and contribute at large to entire HUMANKIND.
As regards teaching and mentoring at KISS, it was excellent, and the interactive two-way communication always helped us to coordinate knowledge gathering better and made us feel comfortable to discuss things with the mentors. Also, mentoring at KISS made us mentally and emotionally stronger. Lectures/interaction on personality building and career guidance were equally significant to achieve success.
I belong to Santhali Tribe & closely associated to my culture and community as a whole. I too have been trying my level best to conduct interaction session with local aspirant/children whenever I visit my hometown. It would be my honour, being nominated with such a prestigious profile as Brand Ambassador. With all my effort, time and experience I shall look forward to working and trying every by possible means for the uplift of my community. As a Brand Ambassador to the fellow KISSians will be: The way out in life is to dream big, act and realize.
