Dr. Mary Kalantzis

Dr. Mary Kalantzis is an esteemed academic and author, renowned for her contributions to education and multicultural studies. Born in Greece in 1949, she migrated to Australia in 1953. She served as Dean of the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2006 to 2016. Prior to this, she was Dean of the Faculty of Education, Language, and Community Services at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, and President of the Australian Council of Deans of Education. Her research encompasses literacy, pedagogy, and diversity, leading to influential publications such as “Multiliteracies: Literacy Learning and the Design of Social Futures” and “New Learning: Elements of a Science of Education.” Dr. Kalantzis’s work has significantly shaped contemporary educational practices and policies.
