Two KISS Students Win Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2016 Awards

Two tribal students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) are among the national-level winners of the prestigious Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 2016 Awards. The two are among the 30 winners out of the 59,400 ideas and projects received by National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF), an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology. NIF declares the annual awards on October 15, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday, also celebrated as the Children’s Creativity and Innovation Day.

Dhanurjaya Dehury, a student of Class-8 of KISS, was selected for the awards for his innovation, “Pedal operated vegetable cutting machine”. Sebati Kutruka, also a Class-8 student, bagged the award for her project, “Machine to dig out sweet potato”. They will receive the award at the hands of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, His Excellency the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan on November 7, 2016. Dhanurjaya is a tribal boy from Koida locality in Sundargarh district, while Sebati is from Bissam Cuttack from Rayagada district. They will leave for New Delhi on 5th November while, Dr. P. K Das Director and Sushanta Kumar Swain, Headmaster, KISS will accompany with the students.   

Expressing his happiness over the success of KISS students, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, tribal students are second to none if they are given proper care and quality education. These two students have shown their talent at national-level, which is a great achievement not only for KISS, but for the entire tribal community. Dr. Samanta congratulated both the students and their guide teachers for their success.

MoU with Adani Foundation
KISS - Mayurbhanj in the Offing

 Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has signed an MoU with Adani Foundation, Ahmadabad on 20th October 2016 to set up a branch of the institute in the tribal populated district of Mayurbhanj. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS on behalf of KISS and Ms. Priti Adani, Chairperson, Adani Foundationon behalf of the Adani Foundation signed the MoU. The Foundation has agreed to finance the infrastructural facilities. The signing in was done in the presence of Adani Group President, Mr. Goutam Adani and Vice-Chairman Mr. Karan Adani. In fact, KISS has purchased the land in Baripada, the district headquarter of Mayurbhanj, five years back for setting up the replica of KISS to impart quality education to the underprivileged tribal children of the district and other districts. Dr. Samanta requested Adani Foundation regarding opening of new branch of KISS in Mayurbhanj. The President of Adani Foundation was aware of KISS and agreed to help in opening the KISS branch in Mayurbhanj. As per the MoU, Adani Foundation will provide one-time infrastructure assistance for this. Expressing his happiness, Mr. Adani said, “It is our pleasure to be associated with a noble cause like KISS. The Mayurbhanj branch will start operating from the next academic year. It would provide underprivileged tribal students of Mayurbhanj and adjacent districts quality education.”

KISS has already purchased land in many tribal populated districts including Koraput, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sundargarh and Keonjhar to set up the replica of KISS. For this, Dr. Samanta has been contacting many corporate houses for their support for last two years. In the mean time, some corporate houses have agreed to support opening of KISS branches. Besides Emami-Balasore and Adani - Mayurbhanj other 6 corporate houses have been agreed to support KISS branch in other 6 districts. As many as 8 to 10 branches of KISS would be started in the districts concerned in the tribal districts very soon, informed Dr. Samanta, adding that in each branch 1200 students will be taken. He thanked Adani Foundation for their support for KISS-Mayurbhanj. KISS is the largest tribal institute of its kind to provide education from KG to PG with free food and residential facilities more than 25000 tribal children of Odisha and the neighbouring states.  

Czech Varsity Confers Honorary Doctorate on KIIT & KISS Founder

Metropolitan University Prague has conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degree on Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS on October 15, 2016. Dr. Samanta was conferred the honour at the Graduation Ceremony of the University for integrating quality education with human values and social service.

It is for the first time the Metropolitan University has conferred Honoris Causa to somebody since its inception. Over the years, several universities from all parts of the world have conferred Dr. Samanta with Honorary Doctorate Degrees. Earlier, he has received two from other universities of Czech Republic, including a 'Silver Medal' for his outstanding social work and contribution to the society.

Metropolitan University is a leading University in Czech Republic, situated in Prague. Prague is the capital city of Czech Republic and popularly known as the "City of hundred spires". KIIT has established itself as a centre of excellence in professional education, while KISS is the biggest tribal residential institute in the world.

Expressing his gratitude to the University, Dr. Samanta said, “I will continue my commitment to work for the society and determination to create a level playing field for marginalized children of the world. I dedicated this honour to the cause of every underprivileged child of the world”.

5 Players of KISS Selected in India Women Rugby Team

Five girls from Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Meerarani Hembram (+3 3rd yr Arts), Sanjukta Munda (+3 3rd yr Arts), Hupi Majhi (+3 1st yr Arts), Manjulata Pradhan (+2 2nd yr Arts) and Bhagyalaxmi Barik selected for "India Women Rugby Team" to represent India in Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Tournament to be held at Colombo, Srilanka on15th to 16th Oct 2016. The will proceed to fight for the country along with the Indian Women Rugby Team on 13th Oct 2016

Gandhi & Shastri Jayanti Celebrated at KISS

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) observed Gandhi and Shastri Jayanti on its campus in the presence of members of Gandhi Global Family Odisha, Dr. Bimalendu Mohanty, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Dr. Dilip Srichandan, Shri Rabi Behera, Dr. Shasanka Chudamani, Shri Chinmaya Sunder Dash and Shri Ashok Pandey. Shri R. N. Dash, Secretary, KIIT & KISS, Dr. P. K. Routray, CEO, KISS, Shri Kaliprasad Samantaray, Shri Suryakanta Mohanty, Shri Pramod Kumar Patra, Dr. P. K. Dash, Shri K. K. Rout also present on the occasion.

Remembering the Father of The Nation, Ram-Dhun was sung with devotion after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. A massive cleanliness drive was undertaken by the students and staffs of KISS and KIIT in and around the campuses on the occasion.
