Mega Guardians' Meet at KISS

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) organized a mega guardians' meet on 25th March 2012. More than 30,000 people, all parents and guardians of tribal students of KISS, attended the meet. They got a firsthand experience of the institute where their wards are studying during the day-long programme.

Assembly of such a large number of tribals representing 62 tribes and 13 primitive tribal communities from all corners of Odisha is one of its kind. Like every year, KISS authorities made elaborate arrangements to host the parents in this mega assembly. These arrangements included their food, shelter and transport.

KISS has been doing a noble work towards the development of tribals of the state as well as neighboring states, guardians said, hoping that the State as well as Central government would also take effective steps for tribal students and their development. Some people who are trying to create obstacles on the way of KISS should learn something from this Institute, they added.

Parents and guardians attending the meet expressed their profound gratitude to Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for securing the future of their children. KISS provides education from KG to PG, vocational training, food, accommodation and all other basic necessities of life absolutely free of cost to 15,000 tribal children. They were satisfied to see that their children are getting education and care at par with any good public school in a beautiful environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samanta adviced them that only education can ensure a dignified life to them as the traditional way of living is now impossible due to lack of natural resources. Ms. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT & KISS, Dr. P. K. Routaray, CEO, KISS and Mr. P. K. Das, Livelihood Director, KISS also spoke on the occasion.

15,000 KISS Students Appeal Maoists to Free Italian Nationals

Tribal boys and girls of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have made a humble appeal to Maoist organizations for an early release of two Italian tourists abducted by them. Total 15,000 students of KISS gathered at the institute campus on 20th March 2012 afternoon and made the appeal to Maoists through mass media. Two Italian nationals – Mr. Paolo Bosusco and Mr. Claudio Colangelo – who were on a sightseeing visit to Daringibadi, were abducted from Kandhamal – Ganjam border recently. The two foreign nationals are our guests, the students said, while appealing Maoists for their early release. Their release will go a long way in ensuring a good image for tribal community, the State and the country, they added.
