KISS Inks MoU with Bridge Partnership, Singapore to Protect Girls in Odisha

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bridge Partnership Asia Pacific PTE Ltd., Singapore and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), India, laying the foundation of Kalinga Fellowship on 30th August 2016. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and Mr. Simon McKenzie, MD Asia Pacific signed the MoU on behalf of KISS and Bridge Partnership respectively.

The Kalinga Fellowship brings together The Bridge Institute, Dasra, KISS, FXB Suraksha, Neeti Foundation, Ashoka India and Odisha Govt. to build a set of recommended strategies that will enhance safety on girls in Odisha and to provide each participant with the most contemporary and progressive leadership techniques, skills and methods to enable them to lead for this agenda. It aims to create a cohesive governance team that will work together to drive these strategies through and after the event. It shall become a role model for solving seemingly impossible challenges by other States and to create India of our dreams.

Inspired by Art of Giving, a philosophy of life propounded by Dr. Samanta, the Fellowship will create 40 leaders. It will shape the way corporate philanthropy is evolving. Art of Giving and Kalinga Fellowship will create a model to build a better India.

Dasra is an influential philanthropic organisation headquartered in Mumbai, backed by institutions such as USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Piramal Foundation. The mission of The Bridge Institute is to support the leaders tackling the most pressing issues in the world, including conflict and post-conflict contexts.

Among others, Mr. Shashikumar Velath, Vice-President, Ashoka Innovators for the Public (India); Mr. R. N. Dash, Secretary, KIIT & KISS and other dignitaries from KIIT & KISS were present during the occasion

KISS Students Best Youth Venture

Two students of Kalinga Institue of Social Sciences (KISS), Dharmananda Bhoi and Shanti Murmu have been selected as best Youth Venture by Ashoka Foundation through a panel discussion held on 5-6th August in Bangalore. As many as 19 short-listed students from various states from across the country participated in the discussion where, Dharmananda and Shanti were selected as best social entrepreneur. The project presented by Dharmananda on ‘UNNATI’, explained his idea about how to engage rural people in sports activities. As today sport is not only the medium of entertainment, it can be chosen as a career. Dhramananda is an international Rugby player who visited so many countries. He is interested to promote sports in his community. The idea of Shanti is to give a better life skill education to her community. She presented her project ‘PARIVARTAN’, where she explained her idea regarding development of society through life skill education. The rural people could live a healthy life through various life skills, she explained. Dharmananda and Shanti are the first ever tribal youth ventures in India selected by Ashoka. After getting selected, these two students will receive support in the form of extensive mentorship and training through a structured programme, and become part of Ashoka's Global network of Social Innovators and Entrepreneurs. Ashoka is one of the largest networks of social entrepreneurs worldwide, with over 3,000 Ashoka Fellows in 70 countries creating large-scale impact through new innovations. Founded in 1980, it is an international network that is driving the social sector and offering a platform for people dedicated to changing the world. . Every year, through the programme they recognize a very small number of students as “Youth Venturers”. Expressing his satisfaction, Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, a new era has started after selection of two tribal students of KISS as best social entrepreneurs. He congratulated Dharamananda and Shanti for their success. 

Independence Day Celebrated at KIIT & KISS

70th Independence Day has been celebrated in KIIT University and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT University hoisted the National Flag in KIIT while, Smt. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT & KISS hoisted the National Flag in KISS. Among others R. N. Dash, Secretary, KIIT & KISS, Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT University; Surjyakant Mohanty, COO, KISS; Dr. Prashant Routary, CEO, KISS; Dr. P. K. Das, Director, KISS were also present. After flag hoisting March-past was performed by the students of KISS. The students also performed colourful cultural programme. Students of Czech Republic and Chess players of different countries also joined the Flag hoisting ceremony in KISS. Similarly Independence Day also celebrated in KiiT International School and Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

KISS Students Excel in Education and Research

Twenty students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have been selected for lectureship posts in different government colleges, after clearing Staff Selection Board (SSB) examination. All these students had completed post graduation in various subjects in 2014-15 academic year.

Further, 43 students of KISS are pursuing Ph.D. in various subjects under Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship. They are getting a scholarship of Rs. 28,000 for 4 years. KISS has created history as in no other educational institution in Odisha so many tribal students have cleared exam for lectureship or bagged Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship.

KISS students have been excelling in 10th and 12th Board Examinations by posting cent percent result since last 10 years. Besides, KISS students have been excelling in national and international level sports. Earlier this year, KISS students had also cleared prestigious national level entrance examinations and got admission in premier institutions like IIT, IIM and NIT.

Many students of KISS are successful in getting jobs in central government, banks and other corporate houses. Expressing happiness over the achievements of KISSians, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder said, KISS students have always been doing well in every spheres, but this year their achievements have scaled new height. There are huge hidden talents among tribal students, opined intellectuals. It is duty of a real man to find out these talents and Dr. Samant proved it, said tribal leaders.
