Noted social activist and Padma Bhushan Anna Hazare visited Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on 16th August, 2010. True objective of education is to instill a sense of duty towards society and country, he told 12,000 tribal students of the institute.

Referring to influences of Swami Vivekananda on his life, he said the essence of life is 'seva' (service) and this is the only secret of success in life. Work of Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS is an example 'seva', which he performs without expecting any benefit. Shri Hazare advised the students to make society part of their extended family and serve the poor to achieve true happiness in life.

A good human being is defined by four key attributes-good character, good thought, good deed and sacrifice, he stressed. Sacrifice is an Indian tradition, he elaborated, while exhorting students to remember sacrifices made by freedom fighters to make the country independent.

Shri Anna Hazare visited different campuses of KISS and witnessed the facilities. KISS is contributing to remove social disparity in the country by providing educational opportunity to the underprivileged, he stated.

Kisan Baburao Hazare, popularly known as Anna Hazare, was born on 15th June, 1938 in a poor family of Maharashtra. He has been recognized for his contribution to the development of Ralegan Siddhi, a village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra and his efforts for establishing it as a model village, for which he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by Govt. of India, in 1992.
